Revolutionary media platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn are beginning to dominate news distribution. As a result, the window to grab audience attention has shrunk dramatically to just the few seconds it takes to scroll through a content feed on a smartphone.
Successful journalism in this arena demands even greater attention to the fundamentals of good reporting to ensure each audience grasps not only the details but the meaning of each story and the impact on their lives.
In 2024, Global Editor began working with the Thomson Foundation to train the next generation of European correspondents in the foundations of accurate, swift and impactful reporting, tailored to today's media markets and audiences.
An initial training session in Warsaw, Poland focused on the building blocks of influential writing relying on story structure, tone, voice, language and visuals, while considering the rise of artificial intelligence as a reporting tool.
